Anyone have any idea how this was done? If so, is it possible to do this for my renderings?

Appears they are just blending two photos...?

The filetype is flash. So Adobe Flash was probably used [there are other options but that one is the most likely]
Mind you, this is not software that will blend 2 pictures in a cool way, you'll have to make it yourself
[or get your hands on the .flv file of this thing and import your own pictures]

Actually, anything should be able to do it - something like this. I made this simple transition movie (SU & IDX Renditioner) in Picasa then exported as a movie.
              Movie_0001.wmv
Then there is this little freebie, Squirlz Morph which can do even more.Pete mad part of his presentation (about Podium) with this at BaeCamp in June (there is also a day/night transition in it) here:

(it starts at about 22:50 - note that this is just a screenshot of his presentation so low quality - he put it onto YouTube somewhere but I cannot find at the moment).

Well, yes. The morphing is not the problem but with mousecontrol up/down it becomes a lot harder. Or there has to be a program that will automaticaly do that for you, but I doubt it.
