[Plugin] V-Ray Tools
-
Hi ThomThom (and of course the other too...!)
I'm using really often Vray renders + Skechup lines, and I came up with an other solution than yours to solve the distortion problem, maybe it can help to share it.
In fact, to be honest, the 'out of the box' Vray Presets (for sketchup) are really bad and does not shows the true potential of this software...
Everything is linked with this physical camera, and if you want to kill the distortion, you have to switch it off.( the only basic effect that you loose is the vignetting, that you can had easily add on Photoshop... and it's a bit the same for the other ones, like exposure, etc...).
The only problem then , is the fact that everything gets burnt by the sun light, which normal level of intensity is set up to match with physical camera's sensibility.
So, the solution is to reduce it, to match with the normal camera sensibility. After many test and a lot of strange results, it appear that an intensity of 0,00005 (don't ask...) is just fine, and give the same result than 1 with the physical cam. Then, everything works perfectly, and you can render directly matching pictures and 2 point perspective or 2D views! You can find this settings in the presets on my website, and I've just done a quick translation to make the non-french speakers able to use them. Their organisation is quite logical, so I think you will find out how they works...
WiP_VrayOptions_Eng.zip
I've also modified the original lamps to match this settings, and to make them more easy to use. (just drag an drop the lamps into your component folder, and when you use them, explode before, if you re using a Vray 1.0, because it bugs when they are into a component... watch this page to find out more http://www.wip-archi.com/wip-visualiser/vray/le%C3%A7on-2-lumiere/)Let me know how it works in your models, so I may improve the presets...

As of SR1.5 of VfSU the default preset it with the physical camera and sun/sky off.
I prefer physical camera as I like to work with real world units, for setting the light and camera exposure. It's only on the rare occasion I want a 2point or 2D view.
-
Ok...
But when you're working on other things than photorealistic renders(and it happens often for an architect..), it's really usefull to have a way to match a clean light calculation (without any lens effect and other stuffs like that..) on a quick sketch (Clay render are far more clear with this method).
Besides, I don't want to move to Vray up to 1.0, regarding to the amount of problem it does create (even with some ruby like 'remove CG materials'). It's sad to see that the solutions offered to solve the original bugs are worse than the bugs themselves. But that's something to be discuss on an other topic, I guess...

Hi Thom Thom
When I try to export via your exporter I always get a 'Failed to save image'
What can I be doing wrong ?
Thanks
Jorgensen -
hm... not sure, can you post a image of your setup when you try to save?
-
witch setup ?
I can export normaly via export > 2d
-
Hey Thom,
I use your plugin since i upgraded VfSU.
It works beautifully with the vray outcome.
But the export image doesn't work for me at all.
After choosing files destination with the browser window, naming the file
-
hm... your height reports "infinity". What's your aspect ratio set to? How does that window look like?
-
this particular screenshot was undefined. but this message pops in all models that i've tried on.
i do set the aspect ratio and the plugin gives me the with info but still fails to export.... -
What's the filename you try to save to?
-
I've tried all sort of combination: numbers, letters and both together.
Too bad i can't export, exactly now i'm working on project that it would be a lot of help.btw is the file type line in browser should be empty?
-
It doesn't offer any list of filetypes.
You must remember to append the file type to the file name. For instance: Image01**.png** -
Ahh... now it works
Thanks Thom -
Good to hear it works now. I'll put it down on my to-do list for that plugin to verify the filetype. I think I did this myself once - and you know you need to change something when you are confused over something you made yourself.

I will request another VRAY toy...
as you may know, VRAY wont render properly textures that are skewed, etc... that is, it wont properly run most of the textures from models downloaded from 3D Warehouse.
Unless you make each texture a UNIQUE texture.
Problem is, the Unique Texture plugin only makes one unique texture at a time. You must select faces and manually do it. Now, if a model has hundreds of faces, it becomes quite a difficult task.
I wish there was a tool for making unique textures automatically. Also, check faces befoehand to analize if the texture in that face is skewed or not. Only makes it unique if its skewed/etc and wont show at VRAY renders.
-
I'm afraid that there's no API to make textures unique.
-
sorry, could you please speak english? I cant understand ancient sumerian
what do you mean "there is no API" to do that?
-
Sorry. What I mean is that we can only allow what SU allows us to control from Ruby. The API is the methods we can use to communicate with SU's model. Making textures unique is missing.

damn SU developers!
does that mean you cant even execute the Make Texture Unique command already implemented into GE? Maybe simulate a right click over the face and a left click over the command??
-
hmm... not sure.
maybe if you assigned a hotkey to it I could trigger that hotkey.
