if no solution, try to download fbx converter at AutoDesk's site. And convert fbx to 3ds. Then import to sketchup

Thank you for the answer. I have many files of the 3dsMax that I collected of many sites. I always export in 3ds, but it is a very old format. I think FBX could take materials and textures link together and also softness in the mesh.

The FBX converter 64 bit, just downloaded it, doesn't convert to 3DS format. Only FBX versions, DAE, OBJ and DXF.

The directions say it will convert 3DS files TO FBX but not the other way around. SimLab has a FBX importer to SketchUp for $79.

Fluidimporter is good and more flexible since it imports other type files at $89

but I find that SimLab FBX importer for SketchUp is more reliable at $79
