Well,they are talking about archaeological reconstructions here. A reconstructionof a ruinous building however is not only about reconstructing what you have now but what you could have hundreds or thousands of years ago - and you cannot photograph that.
I could however find an exciting idea here to create bump (and/or) displacement maps for renderings. This is all - after all - about the surfaces, not the buildings themselves.
