Someone slap me

Im seriously considering buying a load of cheapo computers so i can start a render farm. Of course i have no real use for a render farm, other than to look on wondorously at the speedy render times.
Please pull me back to reality.

SLAP
You have no use for one so no point in the added cost, if you ever get to render for a living then by all means go for it.
SLAP
(the last one is so you don't forget)

Cheers guys, just did a bit of pricing up, that helped as well.

Sounds pretty good. My plan was to buy a load (5-6 ish) cheap old pentium 4 comps with 3ghz processors. I reckon this would give you quite a bit of rendering power, even though each machine costs around 70 quid (about 90 euro, at a guess.)
As for setup, i dont think its too hard to do with indigo, which would be my render engine of choice. I suppose the main difficulty with this plan would be putting enough ram in to each machine to be able to handle big renders
On a more rambling note, i think a lot of the power of a render farm is in the fact that it isnt doing anything else, so its pretty easy to set it going for a few days and then out pops a pimped put render.

What about the ENVIRONMENT!

Who needs the environment when youve got a renderfarm
-
I agree

Can I get in on this?
-
Go for it

Actually I enjoy just the 'bitch slapping'. It doesn't happen every day one get's a free chance. On topic: Cool idea, but you need to be technical one to get the network going.
On the Maxwell site was an interesting talk about buying 4 of the cheaper Dell quad core range (2.4 Ghz quadcores). You would end up with 16 cores at 2.4 Ghz for 2300 euro.
Not a bad price, but the electrical bill will be high. -

I repeat, slapping someone does NOT harm the enivronment
(...as far as I know) -
Actually, a study has recently shown that the skin cells liberated from the slappes face significantly contribute to global warming

You bet. I just had to pay € 800 ( $ 1267.93) extra! That's a lot of cash for a jobless pauper like me. I'm guessing many of you had similar experiences.
I've been dreaming of building my own Super Render Computer, though. Dunno how that's done, but hey, there's bound to be tutorials on the net.
Oh yeah:
slap

When you sya super render computer i take it you mean render farm rather than a pimped out beast machine?

No, I mean Super Render Computer: http://helmer.sfe.se/

Is that just a render farm but squeezed in to a single tower?
oooh, and this looks good: http://helmer2.sfe.se/
I hope he gets round to doing that one, although ive got a feeling its going to be pretty pricey if he builds as he describes, gonna have 24 9800 cards...
