Wards GoogleEarth models
-
Hi everybody,
Here are a few of my models accepted for use in the GoogleEarth:
-
Nice stuff. How long did it take for them to get accepted? I was under the impression it could be quite a slow process...
My only criticism is of the brick texture on the last one. Its pretty bad for moire Pretty hard to correct it, though.
-
Another noob question: how does acceptation process work? What parameters are considered?
I mean, can i insert my house in GoogleEarth?
Thanks -
I think models are assessed based on how good they are (obviously), if theyre geotagged correctly and the file size. Im not suer if the significance of the building is taken in to account, although i woudnt be surprised if it was.

Thanks for the comments guys!
The Residence Dagmara was my first model accepted for GoogleEarth.
I have to agree with you the brick texture is not great, but the building is enclosed by the neighbouring buildings so you can't see the sides.
Here's a picture of the building in real life.It usually takes about 2 months for a model to get accepted by Google. Just cross your fingers!
Here's a short list of criteria for GoogleEarth acceptance.
http://www.google.com/intl/en/sketchup/3dwh/acceptance_criteria.htmlAnd a nice PDF that explains the do's and don't.
http://www.google.com/intl/en/sketchup/3dwh/pdfs/modelingacity.pdfIn short, the model needs to be detailed. (but not heavy on diskspace!)
Correctly alligned, a few lines of text will also help. -

ThanksMaverick,
Yes, you can put your house, or any other geo-tagged model in GE either from 3DW by hitting the View in GoogleEarth link or from your own HD by opening the KMZ file in GE.
The difference is that, in either case, the model will only be visable on your own copy of GE. If you want it to be availabel to everybody on GE, you have to wait for Google's mysterious process to work itself out.
I have some strong oppinions about the way Google supports the modelers.

EduardoNL,
I've found that the stock textures that come in SU materials don't look very realistic and they get worse when they are tiled over a big area like your last building. I think it was Remus who pointed me to a really useful texture site (http://www.cgtextures.com/). For roofs and walls this is great. Also, I've begun to make up a libray of my own photo textures that I can use on different buildings.
The other thing is to spend some time messing with the seamless tiling feature on you photo-editor to get the right effect for big areas. The issue is not that the texture IS acurate, it's that it LOOKs acurate.
