      Good morning all,

I would like to start learning some Sketchup ruby development and began looking at the tools in Sketchup for ruby creation/editing and the cupboard is pretty bare. All I could find was the Ruby Console window.

What tools (IDE's, editors, etc) do you use to do Sketchup Ruby development? The ability to step through a script line by line to see the effects would be a TREMENDOUS assist.

      Thanks in advance

      chris

        Hi Chris,

For most of script and html editing (not as if I were a great scipter) I use Notepad++. It "understands" ruby as well so you should be able to see what's going on. With a little tweak, you can even replace your default MS Notepad with it, try to find the therad at their forum (it was long ago when I did it on my PC).

did anybody of you try "processing for ruby"?

I downloaded the original processing once (with a java script language) http://processing.org/
(you have to know that I never really programmed anything. but with this little piece of software it was quite easy - good documentary and instant review of your work...)
but the syntax isn't as easy as Ruby seems to be (I wouldn't really know, for I never used it πŸ˜† )

but then I read about a ruby version of pocessing - I did download it but wasn't able to find an exe file I could start.

if one of you knows how to use this "ruby processing" I would be very happy to get some advice - I would love to start learning ruby - and processing seems the most enjoyable way πŸŽ‰

plot-paris: urgh. you need to download JRuby first to be able to run processing for ruby.

if you want to play with processing I suggest processingjs - it is in your browser (Firefox | Safari), there are even IDE already (e.g. obsessing) that allows quick testing without any install (and configuring)

if you want to learn ruby dont go the processing way - they are two different things (and much more complicated imho). I would go with Learn to Program

Ok. This is seriously out there. Seriously. Thanks for the reference.

While reading this little ditty, I found the Ruby Bride and the RDE, which I will try out.
