I make SketchUp models all day...well, that and the company graphic design work. Why wouldn't I be happy?
I'm not an arch/viz either. I trained as a book illustrator; and that's what I did for many years. There's no money in it now though; and I'm not ready to opt out and just paint pictures for a living. -
I am not an architect but I play one on TV. (Eric, could you stop being sarcastic for a moment and be serious.)
Really, I am not an architect. I got my degree in horticulture and landscape design. Then an associates degree in drafting. As well as doing models for Form Fonts I work for the oldest architecture firm in Huntsville AL and I could not be happier. I do 3D modeling, graphics and construction drawings, mainly large to medium sized commercial as well as government work. The entire firm is like a family, dis-functional at times but aren't all families?
If I were not doing this I would be modeling clothes for the middle aged overweight white middle class demographic.

I am not an architect either. I work offshore on an oil rig as a rope access inspector and use sketch up to create inspection drawings of pipelines, vessels etc...
Whn the weathers nice I get to climb around the structure on ropes.
I only work 2x weeks and get 3x weeks off...its the perfect job, dangerous at times but I look forward to each trip. -
but do i enjoy my job ?
not yet .
might think about how to start ., what would i do if i were not an architect ?
did no thought about that .
maybe i will have to, if i were not able to enjoy my job .
all this taking for granted that i job because i am not rich
or not ???
dont know yet .

Warran, that sounds like a lot of fun, i wouldnt mind a job like that (especially the time off )
Thanks for your replies everyone, it seems like your all a pretty contented bunch really.

I'm no architect either. I'm a copywriter/editor. That was fun for a while, but I've been bored with it for quite some time now. In any case, things are about to change: depending on how the negotiations with my current employer go, I'm soon gonna be either a fulltime artist or a parttime one.
Both work for me, so I can't lose.

I are an architect (okay, okay, I'm only an intern architect; please don't hate me) and love my job. Sure, it has it's bad days, but the good ones outwiegh them. I only wish I had more opportunities to use SU (about 90% of my SU work I do on my own time, for fun).
What would I be if not an architect? Probably an adult entertainer, but that's best left for a completely different kind of forum.

I graduated interior design. But as someone said: an eye for design is an eye for design, and appreciation of aesthetics crosses many boundaries. So that is what I do now.
Create visual concepts for clients , graphic, architectural (equal partner at arch. Firm) ,
interior design, illustrations,consulting.
If I wasn’t doing this I think I would like to be a SU artist.. -
I'm no architect either, I studied Spatial Design then did a degree in Museum and Exhibition Design but I have mainly worked for and with architects since then doing visuals, planning apps, drafting etc. I'm not sure how to define what I do but I'm happy.

Well: I'm an architect and I adore my job!
I know it sounds normal and ordinary, but it's so.
