This was posted by solo on the Joint Push Pull thread in the ruby forum http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=6713&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30

It scared me enough to run and cry in a corner.

I am sure they are actually, SU has been eating into their CAD business for some time, if Google did not buy SU from @last, I am sure they would have sooner or later.

Even though we sometimes moan at Google, we forget it could be much worse!

Although its really pointless guessing im not sure Autodesk would have moved SU in such a bad way.
They took on Revit and it looks to be in a pretty strong position now!

Maybe they would have taken on SU and progressed it further and at the same time taken some of its ease of use and bolted that onto AutoCad.
Thats how I feel when I look at AutoCAD Architecture (formely ADT) It is this cumbersome Autocad product that is very powerful, but not user friendly at all. It is a sort of hybrid of ACAD and Revit.

What im getting at, we all seem to slag off Autodesk, but that does not mean they would have stood still or ruined SU.

          No.
(But it may now have cost $2500 with a mandatory upgrade-or-else every two releases...)

Except in the UK where we would be charged £2,500 😡

and also recompiling of plug-ins to new version of sdk(for example many designers want new vray to work with AD 3ds MAX Design 2009...but in 20 april).
And if you use non-subscription support(using sdk from max-content), you need to download simple max 2k9 version(with sdk) for developing plugs..for design-version(max is having 2 version now) 🤢

I wish that new sketchup(7) hasn't such problems(remember that 6 has sketchup.rb and some in tools-dir...and need to clear some lines from code in rbs-scripts)
Devs please make more flexible enviro for ruby... ☀

I agree completely. While I do feel that AutoDesk charges too much for it's software I see others do it as well. I do think that AutoDesk would have developed SU more to what "we" would like to see instead of simply a tool to populate Google Earth. I for one dreaded the day Google bought @Last.
