Going to the moon with Google.
-
Thought it was time to show what I've been up to.
I was fortunate to be approached by the Xprize Foundation, to produce visualisations of the entries in the Google Lunar Xprize. You can see the results here:
http://www.googlelunarxprize.org/lunar/teams (click on the team logos to see the visuals).
And one visual was picked up by the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/22/business/22space.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=lunar++google&st=nyt&oref=slogin
All vehicles were modelled in SU, before rendering in 3dsMax.
So, a project for Google, using Google software... Perhaps Google would be interested in using this as a case-study ?
Andy.

I'm sure Aidan has noticed it now, Andy. Great work!
By the way, despite being an early "Case Study" veteran, I was hired to become an instructor in SketchUp initially because (on a dare) I modeled the entire planet Mars in SketchUp using MOLA data from NASA...and then posted it on the old SketchUp Pro Forums gallery.
One of my students recently modeled in SU a Bussard-ramjet-powered Jupiter exploration vehicle for a final project in a 3D design class...I'll have to see if I can get him to post it.

hey andyc great work!
where can i see of all the vehicles? can you post some pics?Lewis, i remember that post of the 3d mars, did't you also made the olympus mons caldera in 3d? those models where really great you should repost them.
By the way any of you knows a free program called Celestia?? that program was really amazing, i never understood why google hasn´t developed google earth to a Celestia type program, it whould be much better than google sky.
