Help for a Cocoon
-
Hi guys,
First of all I'm really sorry but I'm not americain lol so it's hard for me to explain the problem .
I have created a "coocoon" for a big library with some others programs and I would like to make it also with sketchup but It's really hard to make some curved,egged-shapped
I know that some guys can created some component exactly like the "real object" (like some ferrari,lamborgini..it s AMAZING)
There's a tutorial for that to create a component "easily" thanks to the real object?
So if someone can create this or (theses) components lol or just to explain me how to create some "egged-shapped" It will be very usefull because I'm working on a library project(I m architect) and I Have to do this..
Thx againHere 3 cocoons made by myself if someone can help me ^^:

I'm waiting for you guys -
I suggest checking out free form deformation. Its exactly the sort of thing youd need for a project like this.

Just to give you an idea of whats possible, i had a very quick go at doing the second one.

Charlyboy, welcome.
The first link you provided, that is a simple profile and extrusion.
The other two... have you tried this ruby script?

Message for Eric Lay,
Oops! Sorry about that. I didn't know that you had modelled it for FF. Just as well my model is so inaccurate.
Kind regards,
Bob -
It's not about that - why should/could one not model something that already exists - unless it's a copy or something...
Just "provided" another example. Surely even if Charlyboy subscribed and downloaded the component, he could not (would not allowed to - according to the EULA of FF) include it into another collection let it be commercial or free. Thus your help is more valuable for him I presume... -
Dear Gaieus,
In consideration of Eric's model on FF, do you think my skippy should be removed from the forum? If so, then please do so. What is the etiquette in such cases?
Regards,
Bob -
No need to remove it, especially if charlyboy isnt subscribed to formfonts.
-
Bob,
Just because Eric has once modelled such a thing, he (or FF) does not have exclusive rights. Imagine that after some years FF will have modelled almost every furniture and people are not allowed to use SU unless they subscribe to FF. This would be crazy.
You obviously did not make your model using the FF model (did not even know about it) so I don't think FF would ever have the right to claim copyright over it.
I only mentioned that I had seen such a model. But if you are uncertain, please, PM to Eric or Alan Fraser and I'm sure they will reassure you about your concerns.

Dear Gaieus,
Good Morning, and Happy Easter!
Thanks for the fast response. It isn't a good model, but I didn't want to upset anyone. I use Sketchup for fun, and for designing mechanical bits and pieces at work, and so my income does not depend on my modelling skills (thank God!).
Well, my wife keeps calling me, and telling me to "Get off the computer!!!". I keep telling her that "it's a man thing". We are off to London to visit a few museums and then on to the Masala Zone for an authentic India meal.
Regards,
Bob -
O my god Guys thank a lot!! I dont find my words lol It s exactly what I needed!!

Very Good job to find the chair!!!I see the component but only on jpeg..does it exist in sketchup file? I have to log in on the website to take it??
Remus=>It's perfect!!I took it and I will work on it..
Thanks a lot guys for advices and links you saved my life^^ -
Formfonts is a subscription based service, so you pay a few hindered dollars and you can download as many models as you like. Quite an expensive way of doing it if you only need a few items though.
-
Also you are not supposed to "re-share" FF models so if you are building a public (commercial or free) collection, don't include it.

interesting model
ffd as other said, and i think beziespline to project lines for some boolean operations...Or use Pilou's favorite nurbs tool - MoI3d or my Rhino
