Thats it, if you have a face intersecting a smooth face like that you will always get a visual artefact like you are seeing.

edit: sorry, i though this was a separate post asking a question for some reason, just ignore what i said.

The above link may be the solution to this artifact problem.

❓ not sure if this is what you're talking about, but... I figure you know, but maybe just to check:
when you click the circle or arc tool in SU before starting to draw the arc or circle type 48 and hit enter for circles, it's default is 12 segments. 48 will give much smoother circles for renderings. Arcs look better at 24 than default 12... even better at 36. Don't go too crazy typing in all higher numbers in there because it will seriously add to the size of the model.

I think this can be changed to become the default behavior somewhere in SU's preferences.

            Big Bag of Baz,

Right on, I've looked into this Jackness -- largely not the case... Very unnerving.

Remus -- Oh, Jack bird interesting.

Mitcorb, I've been fearful of ruby scripts and use none.... I Jack bird fear them.

            Should I go there?

Fletch to the Sky Scraper -- bring the multi action.

I will do this kind of high number arc action in the future.

            What about all this?

I am seeing this kind of deal on all my Jack action models now. With many users slam dancing all manner of modeling SletchUp over on planet HyperShot, I'm guessing I can't be the only one to encounter such Jack bird weirdness?

            Knowledge?

Should you go there? Well, it ain't the dark side. I would choose carefully from the selection available, and there are many. On the other hand, one could see it as a form of corruption of principles.
I really appreciate your style, and respect your sense of creativity that spills over between the verbal and visual. What you say is as important as what you model and present on this forum. I hope that I can advance as far as you have.

Re Rubies, scary, maybe, there are so many, and it can be hard differentiating between versions and working out which can be be useful to ones workflow, but dark, absolutely not.
Its too late in the evening for me now, but let me put a selection of rubies together for you tomorrow which will, I promise, free your sketchupmind and literally save hours of tedium better spent realising the goal.

DH. As promised here is a selection of some of the rubies I use most often, there are many, many more. I've lashed up a few quick examples, very basic, but you will get the idea.
Most are very generously donated by the ruby wizards, others are for purchase for very little from Smustard, amongst others. (Those below are all free)
Some come with documentation, others are obvious, and yes it's easy to get swamped with them.
I tend to grab them when I see them and put em in an 'Unplugged rubies' folder. Then load them one at at time and decide if I will find them useful, if not, then back they go to unplugged, cos you never know. (It's often useful to open them in notepad for any documentation.)
As well as these, I find 'Purge', 'Start front face tool' and "copy along path' essential.
I hope you will find this useful, you gotta get into rubies, every time a ruby wiz releases a new ruby its almost like getting a new version of sketchup.

I'm sure others will have a few recomendations too.
