As the subject heading says, can anyone recommend free software for making video tutorials and screen capture videos? There seem to be quite a few to choose from.

      Thanks in advance,

      Jackson

        Jackson,

There's a thread about this (though kind of "dead" by now) here:

For video capture I use Avi Screen Classic and Ulead Video Studio (not free) for editing and comressing things. I also have a software (at home) that I use for exporting avi files to flash - I just cannot recall what its name is (I downloaded it from "Giveaway of the Day" which is a useful place to find such small, inexpensive yet not "freeware" sofware).

          Thanks Csaba,

I did a search, but nothing relevant came up. Just downloaded Avi Screen Classic, I'll give it a try tonight.

Jackson, I use CamStudio (). I think it was recommended by someone on this forum but I can't remember who. I haven't done much other than basic screen capture video but it has worked well for me so far.

              Hi guys,

I installed and tried out Avi Classic and CamStudio, but despite changing frame rates (even up to 200fps) I'm getting VERY choppy avis out- like 2fps. Can't understand why, especially as I'm getting the same result with both progs and my laptop's reasonably fast.

              Any ideas?

are your codecs up to date?

perhaps upload a small test so we can see if it's choppy on our end?

I was thinking about CamStudio and Camtasia. Both are similar in that both are able to record to SWF and AVI. However, in Camtasia there are options to record mouse and keyboard clicks which are not available in CamStudio.

Does anyone know of a syand-alone mouse utility that highlights the mouse and keyboard with audible clicks or visual indicators? Something like this would close the gap between these two programs.

                  Hi

CamStudio is a good choice for video, but not good in Audio streaming. I got different results
