The strangest thing
-
We have fish, lots of fish. 3 years ago we bought a black goldfish and a Weather Loach, see here:
http://www.loaches.com/species-index/we ... licaudatus
Well the goldfish died about a year and a half ago and we got black and gold mali. Since then there have been over 40 black mali born in our tank.Well the loach had a habit of burying himself in the rocks for a day or so then come out and swim like crazy. Kind of a boring fish but he looks cool and when he swims it is a show. Anyhow, he buried himself again a few days ago and we have not seen him since. So I decided to go fishing. I got a long stick and started poking. Well after about 30 min, all the plants out of the tank and a pile of rocks on one side (moving them slowly from one side to the other) there is no sign of him, just what looks like small pieces of him floating where I stirred the tank. No bones, nothing. I guess it was his time but to not find any trace is really odd. I did not think he would decompose that quick.
In that tank there are only 3 black mali, the other tank has about 15 and the rest were donated to other people. Could the 3 in there with "Mr. Stretch" have eaten his remains???
Just thought I would share.

I was going to say they for sure ate him, but that is a huge fish! theres some powerful digestive action going on there!
-
He was about 6 1/2" long.

have you asked your cat what may have happened?

Very strange

I know this topic has been long since gone but there is a new development, even stranger than the original perceived outcome.
My wife was chasing a moth in the bedroom tonight and saw something odd under the bed aginst the wall. Well waddya know, there is Mr. Stretch, dry as a bone and just as hard... 5 FEET AWAY FROM THE TANK
There is an opening near the filter about 1" X 2" that he must have shot out through. I mean when he swam he was fast so he must have flew out, thought to himself: "Freedom... Oh S+!t" then "Crawled" 5 feet along the base boards looking for water.
Poor guy -
OMG... that is amazing...
I can't tell my mom... she'll flip... she hangs out in a gold fish and Koy forum... you should have documented it for ripley's believe it not... oh yeah that show was canceled like 20 years ago... nevermind.

Eric,
You may not be aware of the fact that
You have solved my mistery. The same
thing occured to us a couple of weeks
ago and we still havent an idea what had
happened. In my case it was a small
goldfish only about an inch or so and
it just vanished into thin air.
Listening to You... 5 feet. Well now Ill have
to take another look. -
When I was 12, I took the class gold-fish home to take care over the Christmas holidays. That little guy kept leaping out of his bowl and I had to keep putting him back. It took me a couple of days to figure out what was going on and I was heartsick about it.
I had put his bowl on top of the TV. Can you imagine the poor little guy in there, suffering like that.? -
Come on now Susan. The Beverly Hillbillies was a funny show. If that fishie didn't like to laugh it's certainly is not your fault! Having to be on top of the TV through Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeanie and Green Acres may not be everyone's cup of tea but it shouldn't be considered suffering. Stop feeling guilty. It's not your fault the fish hated TV. It's a well-known fact that many fish lack a sense of humour.
