I have to tell you
-
I dont like the assertion of the forums:
-"The new Home of the SketchUp Community"-I would feel better if it said:
-"Alternative Home for the SketchUp Community"-SketchUp Community is wider than this forum.
We all know it.Take a thought about it.
-
so no one else is commenting. I guess I have to.
What you are proposing is perhaps more politically correct, Juan. But the reality is that pretty much all of the regulars from the old forum are here, and for the most part they are not at Google Groups.
It think that the phrase is pretty accurate as it stands and, not to be mean spirited, but there was another party who shall remain nameless that really didn't much care to be politically correct when they suddenly announced that they were going to pull the plug on the old forum willy nilly.I don't think we owe any one any false courtesy.
-
if they had made more of an effort to be couteous to us perhaps I might feel differently, but I don't mind the name. I think it is what it says...
btw Jaun... you're here...

Hi Juan,
I admire your loyalty and efforts also hopes on the old GSU Forum but the decision to terminate has been carried out. Life moves on and I'm delighted than many, many of the old forum members are here continuing as we had been, helping each other and newcomers.
I feel the name is appropriate but again what's in a name? I think that many here now regard SketchUcation as 'Home of the SketchUp Community'. It welcomes all and allows full entry / access to both Free and Pro Users immediately. We have also a growing number of GSU folks here that I think also feel the same way.
I would add that this is pretty much a democratic place. If the majority of members call for something it normally appears quickly.
Home is where the heart is. I could not say that of GSU Groups but I can say it about SketchUcation, so put your feet up and enjoy your friends here
Mike

I think what it fits better would be:
Shelter of the SketchUp CommunityThat assertion would give an horizon for the future in the hope of getting developpers and users unite again.
Getting, if so, @t last, a Home.
It would also clarify for the new ones coming.
I mean, things have to sort out. This separation between developpers and users can not end as a divorce for it will then become - meaningless places- for each one.Mike,
-"home is where the heart is"-, yes, that´s philosophical. But, you know, a Home is a Home. And this place is great, yes,Coen,
I´ll gladly moderate the Spanish Forum when needed but what troubles me now is the clarification of the place we are in now.
Thank you. -
the SketchUp forums are not coming back Jaun...
it's dead.. gone, never to return,
@last is gone, dead never to return,
Google moved it all to Google Groups... you know the place that has a forum for everything under sun, in the exact same format?
we won't be moving anywhere... this is it. and if you want to be in the place that google wants everyone... well thats in Google Groups...
-
Perhaps the line could read: A Home for the SketchUp Community. To me that's what it is "a home" -- not necessarily the only one. Coen has done a great job of making this place home-like for as many as possible and these forums are still establishing their own unique character. That character may suit some users more than others. We users will of course make up our own minds if it is the right home for us. I'm glad so many are already finding it their home and are contributing to build a really strong community.
Regards, Ross

Biggest & best
We can expect that the character of these forums will evolve somewhat as the number of members grows. Some will welcome those changes but unfortunately it is inevitable that some will not and move on. They go to other 'homes' or become hermits.
-
Funny, the Push Pull bar is still around isn't it, and not a soul thought of going over there.
-
Seems Coen has already responded...cool!
-
Jaun,
As I said, I can fully understand what you wish for.
Yes, it does make sense having the programmers and
the users in one place but that is not possible at
present with Google Groups. Very few are willing
(me included) to try and make Groups a comfortable
place. It just does not have the basics required and
never will in its present format. Please think of it this way, If the mountain will not
come to Muhammad, then Muhammad will go to the mountain .
I think this is becoming the situation. Google had
hoped that Groups would be the new 'Home' of SketchUp
Users but this has not happened and from the looks
of things will not happen. However, we ARE getting the SketchUp Programmers and
Technical People on board SketchUcation little by
little. I can advise, all going well, that we shall
be seeing a certain young lady (recently married) from
GSU that has been the anchor in the Beta Forum.I am also working on a few more GSU people, past and
present, in the hope of having them join this group
of dedicated SketchUpers.Mike

OK, ending this thread on my part.
This place is Coen´s Place. It is SKETCHUCATION.
Coen has giving us the shelter in all this unfortunate migrating issue.
The migration has ended in a disaster so far. The same as the communication between Google and us.
This shelter is so good that it has became a Home. But lets dont mix the concepts. This place is SKETCHUCATION.
I dont agree with Kristof when he says @last is dead. If it were so SketchUp would be dead too and we all know sooner or later there will be an upgrade of the software, made eventually by the @last people who still remains with Google. And what you say, Mike, is got to be proved yet.
Besides I dont believe Google having bought the software will not exercise their rights on developping it.So, the point to me is to have it clear that we, developpers and users, are in need of finding a neat solution for us all.
And I dont think it helps calling this place the Home of the SketchUp Community
I think Ross has understood my point of view but I think we got to get further. It is clear for me that keeping and improving this site does a really good job and it is necessary for keeping the spirit we had.
But if we are able to clarify, to put the things in their proper place, we will all win.
So how to call this place?
It is not easy.Coen, what do you think?

What about A SketchUp Community Home?
-
I've been here from the start, and folks on the SketchUp team come to me first to ask about your feelings, or what's going on with the community. I continually encourage them to come visit here and I send links in emails for folks to take a look at.
With that said, when we do come here, we are hoping to not have to continue to revisit the migration issue over and over. I am moving on with the job at hand, which is to support the SketchUp community, help folks when/where I can, help collect data to improve SketchUp (both ideas for features and issues to fix) and contribute in a POSITIVE way.
Please, let's not continue to argue over what someone calls this most excellent forum. In my opinion, it's keystrokes wasted and we only get so many keystrokes in one's lifetime.
Thank you,
- CraigD
-
Well its Ok Coen. It is your place. You decide.
However
SKETCHUCATION HOME.- SKETCHUP´S FORUMS
sounds to me more likely.CraigD,
that´s your opinion, as you say.
I dont think delivering about the name to give is a loose of time, on the contrary.Different points of view.
But OK.
I wont insist anymore. And by the way, this is the Corner Bar.
-
CraigD...
you just made me wince when you stated we only get soo many keystrokes... I use soo many everyday... I'm melting....
-
Maybe you are just reading a little too much into this Juan?
If is was to be named the "Official SU Forums" or something similar I may agree with you. I read "Home of the SU Community" and find myself agreeing.
But, we are all different and have different opinions.
