I feel bad for the news reader. They just read what is on the teleprompter but don't usually comprehend what they are reading...until it is too late to unsay the words.

Good question. There've been other examples of news readers saying strange things simply because they are reading what someone else wrote and stuck on their teleprompter. Do a youtube search for 'teleprompter prank' and you'll see lots of other examples.

No. Actually he wasn't but I've had enough experience with TV news people who weren't related to me to know.
