Forgive me if this has been discussed...

Is there a ruby that will reduce the polygon count of a mesh?
For example, if you create a terrain with the sandbox tool then select the mesh, run the ruby and generate 25% less, 50% less... polygons.

      Thanks.

Thanks Coen, even though I'd seen this before I forgot about this method.

Eric, I am in the same dilemma as I need to reduce polygons of some .3ds models and have them .skp ready. I know that using Max I can use some scripts and all but the conversion to SU still have the models too large and lots of wasted poly's still remain.
I do not know who at FF is the crunching guru, but the person that was able to reduce the vehicles for use in SU may be a great start. If you are able to get that info please let me know too.

Sorry I can't be the bearer of good news, but to the best of my knowledge there are no poly reducing scripts in SketchUp. The only way to do it is by hand, with your finger on the Alt button, pulling vertices together.
As for the crunching guru and reduced vehicles on FormFonts...sorry again, but there's no such person and no such models. All the cars on FF are low poly because Gabriel builds them that way...like everything else...from scratch in SU.
