Okay...another image if you'd be so kind. I've tried to incorporate what I think I learned from the last you'll helped me with.

First thing I see is the lack of scale reference/transition between fore, middle, and background...the houses look both too big and too small, and there is a toylike quality to the scale of the towers. Suggestions on this...and all else, thanks?

As for the other matter: the screen shot shows no moire present in SU, but every export had the same "bullseye" in the center...?

It the moire by any chance associated with a brick texture? Try exporting image as big as possible - up to 9999 pixels, then reduce in Pshop. You could also try increasing the size of the bricks (it won't matter so much at long distance), or try a brick texture eg. one of Alan Fraser's from formfonts -- they are nicely done so that they tile without lightness variation.

          hi tom,

well, the moire effect always puzzles me. it also appears when you have a number of louvers, wooden slats and other kind of repetitive patterns.

i do not know how to fix the moire effect but have a couple of observations about your two renders:

          1. houses in the foreground: i would make them more subdued, perhaps in a darker tone/color. the supporting actor is kinda stealing the scene.
          2. sky: something in between the two you have should be the ticket, one is too strong the other is almost non-existent
          3. converging lines (the towers seem to be leaning backwards): this is something that always bothers me. i would make the wiewer's sight line paralell to the ground (no matter if you have to put him a mile away, you can get closer later in photoshop) or would use the Camera>>Two-point perspective feature of SU.

hope some of it helps you.

The moire effect might be your computer. I sometimes have that problem at work, but not at home (where I have a better graphics card).

I have nvidia at both work and home - the one at home just happens to be a "better" model. I'm looking at replacing it though with the latest, if I can ever figure out which one would be the best (all this stuff is greek to me).
