Does anyone know of an engine, or application similar to 2nd Life where SketchUp models could be uploaded, and then could be explored using an avatar?

I'm thinking mostly of a gallery. Instead of downloading the model to SketchUp, you explore the model in a virtual world. One advantage, assuming a multi-user environment, would be the shared experience. You could lead a tour of the model, for example.

I know it's not a new or unique idea, but I haven't been able to find the right combination of applications and workflow to make it work.

I don't know about leading a tour, being multiple connects to a model (unless they are in the same physical room as you are), but have you looked at the Plug-ins and Add-ons section? I know you will be able to find something there, I'm not naming any specific product as it may seem as though I'm biased towards certain products (there is more than one that should be able to do what you require).

          Hi Juju,

I don't see what what you mean in the plugins section, but that's probably my fault. I didn't talk enough about the possibility of a shared experience. Modern 3d engines have a lot of nice features - voice communications, lighting, textures, ambient sounds, real world physics, and all in a multi-user environment. Giving a tour of your model to clients is only one potential use of the technology.

          Hi

Have a look at both Hypercosm and eDrawings, AFAIK they have some functionality that is like (or close to) what you are describing.
