No I didn't model it myself....😄 I imported the model as .3ds and added a water surface with bump map and rigged it up to render.

I wouldn't know how to begin a model like that. 😳

I do want to learn, however, how organic shapes (like sails) can be uv-mapped properly in sketchup ...
a thing I just can't figure out. It would be great to have some extra tools for that in SU...
            Wishlist? 😉

Doing those sails isn't that hard I assume, Soap Skin Bubble will get you a long way, if you want more control though I refer you to my way of making organic shapes in SU http://www.sketchucation.com/scf/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2071&start=15

                    Not exactly in SU, but:

                    Link Preview Image
                    UVMapper - UV Mapping Software

UVMapper is a freeware Windows and Macintosh utility for UV mapping and texturing 3D models

                    favicon

The Classic version is free, and it's pretty straightforward. I'm just trying it out for pillows and cushions in another application, but if I like it and bite for the Pro version I'll post the results and give some feedback.

http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/Gen3DTuts/UVMapperTut/UVMapper1-1.html is a decent tutorial showing the simplicity of the interface.

                    Hope this helps,

                    John S.

Looks pretty awesome, and might this work with Vray for SU? Because if so then you just made my day 😄.

Wasn't there also a new 3D plugin for Photoshop CS3 that lets you uv-'paint' straight on a 3D object?
                        Anyone experience with that ?

those are really really cool  and all u need now is that BLACK PEARL at its tail! 😄 ..VfSU is surely a nice app.. too pricey i think...
anyways.. how did u do that second image.. i mean with the sun rising at the horizon.. is that an HDRI??? or was it just the physical sky with some option that i missed?? 😒

and one other thing.. have u tried out the physical camera yet? i seem to be having some problem with it when i try using the HDRI background!! it just wouldnt render the background!! any ideas???
