Digitally Embedding Copyright Notice for Photoshop Image Files

A simple method to provide added protection of all your artwork

To add your copyright information to an image in Photoshop:

Open the image file to which the copyright information will be added.

From the 'File' menu, select "File Info".

    Change 'Copyright Status' to "Copyrighted".

Change 'Copyright Notice' text boxes to your desired copyright information text for your name or your firm.

    Press "Okay".

To create an 'Action' that will automatically add your name information to an image:

Open the image file to which the copyright information will be added.

Select the 'Actions' Palettes from the Palettes on the right.

Click the 'Notepad' icon on the bottom right of the Actions Palette to create a new action.

In the window that comes up, change the name of the action to "Add Copyright Info"

Set the 'Function Key' to be any function key that you can easily remember. For example "F12".
For all susequent files, this will be the key to activate your customized copyright text.

    Press "Record".

From the 'File' menu, select "File Info" & enter in your desired copyright information. (As in the previous steps above)

In the "Actions" Palette, press the square "Stop" button to stop recording.

That's it. Whenever you want to add your copyright information to an image, just press the designated
    function key. (i.e. F12)

    Add Project information:

Also with each new image, select "File Info" to add the relevant project information for your work, your client,
etc., in the top text boxes. Press "Okay". This file information is the source for the publishing industry to identify
and track the authors of any visual image file.

This method was first presented and distributed to attendees at the ASAI International Conference, Architecture In Perspective 20, Washington, D.C., October 2005
