Please excuse the frankly shocking quality of this render, as it was meant to be more of an experiment ot see if i could do a working telescope: the conclusion, sort of.

I like these renders - they appeal to the mathematician in me I guess. Here's one that I struggled with if you feel like testing it out.

Ive got another one cooking at home, hopefully it'll be a bit more interesting than this one, the model was a bit more interesting at least.

EDIT: computer crashed ๐Ÿ˜ž no exciting render for a while.

What render app. have you used for making these, Remus..?? ๐Ÿ˜•
And can you share some info about how you've done the texturing on the spherical shape..??
I feel that SU is so poor when it comes to spheres, but maybe you can shed some light...!? ๐Ÿ˜‰

                      Cheers

The first 4 were podium renders, and form then on they're all indigo.

To texture the wooden bowl i used a prjected texture on all the surfaces, did the same for the completely wooden sphere as well.

To do the wood/glass sphere i intersected a series of planes with the sphere before applying a straight texture.

                        Nothing very special really ๐Ÿ˜‰

Id be interested to see other peoples attempts at a similar subject, if anyone can be bothered.

obviously not such a popular subject, anyway, onto more interesting things:

                            http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2046/2406228056_e191c4d269.jpg?v=0

Definetly a WIP, need ot improve the colours, probably going to have to redo the shape as well, its too low poly really.

Remus, you are on the right track.

the best way to get efficient and fluent with a render engine is to play with it.

Now challenge yourself, try bumps with reflection, transparency with caustics, metals with specular maps, etc.

not very challenging, but jolly toasty.

warning make sure youve got a good squint going before you look at this, the textures are very badly done, i couldnt be bothered to redo them.

Lots of points if you can guess what its meant to be ๐Ÿ‘

And i do rather like the lighting, just a pity the models not so brilliant ๐Ÿ˜‰
