I think I'm 61! I can't help you only to suggest
that you contact the KT guys directly or via their
Web Site. The link is on the front page here under
Friends of SUC.Mike

Thanks Mike - no replies for an xml importer there either. guess i'll have to post it again!
-
Most of us - non ruby scripters - just "Lurk around" here, you know. This is the 3rd time I look into this topic (as every time there is a new post in it).
I remember once a thread at the KT forums about importing KT xml files and there is already a (Hungarian) general 3D converter which claims to be able to do this (I forget the name/URL now) but as someone informed the community there, it does not work well.
Actually, what exactly the reason for which you would like this exporter/importer?
-
This is what I've replied in the KT Forum...
Sorry, Max... I have seen your question before, but I don't have an exact answer for you...
I'm not sure why you would like to export from KT to SU...
Although I haven't had time to play with it yet, maybe this program can help you...?!? At least you can import/open KT XML-files and save them to another 3D formats, which you might be able to import in SU... -
Ah, yes, that's the program I meant, thanks Kim!
-
thank you gentlemen, i will give it a look..
the instancing brush is a powerful modeler, you can generate random planting (say ivy or other random patterns) and then have that intricate object in SU for other tricks - rendering a mixture of KT and SU..
-
Ah, that's in the background! Though I1m afraid that even a moderate use of the instancing tool in Kerky would bring SU on its knees.
Have you tried Didier's component spray tool for instance (no pun meant)? It kind of does the same in SU than instancing in Kerky.

Like Csaba already mentioned, it will surely bring SU on its knees...
Moreover, I don't believe the 3D object converter will recognize instanced objects...
I might be wrong, but please note that the instance brush in KT is a special feature...But did you know that you can place "dummies" in SU and replace these with instanced objects in KT..??
I.e. you place some 2D trees in SU (enabling you to orbit the model/scene in SU) then you can replace these in KT with instanced 3D trees... -
i think you all are right: model too big (though that can depend) and instancing is a unique KT feature. i believe that pretty much settles it
re. comp spray - good tool (still get strange results at times). however in this case the composition will differ from the one i obtain in KT.
re. dummies - i could be wrong but i think you can only do that with the beta version of SU2KT - the one 'us public' didn't get in the official Tomasz release.

You're right that instances isn't in the SU2KT plug-in - but there's a work around...
In KT you make the objects as instances and one instance can be replaced by another... -

Please, don't be so mysterious, Kim! You mean by the proper (keep new/throw away current) merge tool?

Sorry... Didn't mean to be "mysterious"...
Please have a little patience (for a couple of days) and I will make a short tutorial on how it's done...
I don't mean the merge option (keep new/throw away current) but the Instance brush...I will get back as quickly as possible on this...
-
Gaieus, Fred means this:
open the instancing brush tool box (window - instancing brush)
select your tree (or any single instance)
activate it as the brush instance (top arrow in the brush tool box)
select a place to paint the instance on
activate it as the canvas (arrow below the first in the brush box)
click on brush at the bottom and enter a name for itthis new instance you have created will show on the left pane tree (has a grey circle before the name)
now if you right click on that instance you will see a new command: 'instancing'. it lists ALL the brushes available. they can be swapped with others (which have to be created as above)
Fred..not exactly what i was looking for!
-
Yes, I know the instancing method - I was just curious whether this would mean something like we use "dummy components" in our skp models which then can be replaced (kind of like "reloaded") with the instance tool.
It's OK that we can replace things but selecting an "object" is rather like selecting materials in KT (unless you group things) but three instances of the same component in SU will not be three different "object" in KT.
-
exactly Gaieus... hear that Fred?
however Tomasz script did include an export option for instanced objects!
i am in fact waiting until he feels it is publish-able
-
Come on guys... THere's a work around, just like I told you...
Please posses yourself with a little patience and I'll come back with a tut... -
It's not a big deal, Kim - the instance tool is cool enough to occupy my near future endeavours
-
it's a given there's no hurry Fred... ..i'm already glad to get an answer to my question - (18 replies to my languishing post in fact) cheers!
