Another storm...
-
We are getting a doosie right now. 90km winds thrashing the snow around and shaking the house. The radio reports the 13km long bridge to the Island is closed to all traffic which is very unusual. (It was designed to deflect the wind from the bridge deck and in most storms it is closed only to 'high-sided' traffic like trucks and buses). Officially the police are saying there is ZERO visibility on the highways. I'm surprised we still have power as the winds are strong enough to push the older power poles over! I went out to the garage to close the door that had blown open. Dixie the dog went with me -- if she wasn't on a leash I'm sure she would have blown away!
I'll try to attach a little movie just recorded out my window. It is probably too large to attach... * Sorry .mov files aren't supported * If you could see it you'd be seeing almost no visibility to the tree about 10m from the window and lots of snow blowing by sideways.
Regards, Ross
PS -- I imagine our friend Tina is getting the same storm in Maine. She's only about 450km away.

I coulnd't upload the movie so I'm attaching a jpg. It unfortunately makes it look like a peaceful scene where its actually not that far from the end of life as we know it. If I don't post again its will be because our house has blown down & I've been crushed.

Ross that sounds pretty bad. Hope you manage okay.

Not Fair! Tina's got it good! I know it is petty of me but I felt better thinking another sketchupper was experiencing the same storm. It looks like clear weather in Maine.
A few days ago Tina wrote about an earlier storm. That one we shared. In it I had to visit a job-site. On my way back to the office I failed to make a turn and my car slid off into the ditch. It was a deep ditch and the car went in sideways. It all happened in slow-mo. My life didn't flash as I was too busy thinking "oh-oh this suckers gonna flip". It didn't but it came to rest at a precarious angle and took out a couple of fence posts. I wasn't hurt and wandered over to the farm house on foot for help. The old lady who lived there was very helpful letting me use her phone to call a tow truck. In conversation it was discovered that her husband was the cousin of the secretary at my office. I learned all the family secrets! I also had to tell the woman all my family story. Such discussions seem to matter lots here on the Island. The connections between people seem to be like glue here -- keeping the fabric of Island life together. Deep down I know it is a special thing. An experience like crashing your car can turn into making a friend. That's cool.

When nature is trying to kill you it makes perfect sense to be friendly with all members of your own species.
Stay warm.

Hi Ross... yes, it was clear skies today, actually quite beautiful!
We did get hit with storms just a couple of days from each other. I think we've had over 100" of snow this year so far. That's probably spring for Ross!
