You all realize that this was a vehicle (actually, a floating AI designed to detect the organ-stealing, green-skinned aliens before they did their dirty work) from Gerry Anderson's U.F.O. television series, from Britain, in the early 1970's?

A seriously odd show, even by the standards of the day...moonbases that looked like soccer balls, phallic Interceptors that fired nuclear missiles shaped like bloated cigarettes, gull-winged turbine-powered cars, female SHADOW officers who wore purple wigs as part of their uniforms...the goodness goes on and on.

The "actual" SID was white with red trim.

From this view, the satellite would only reflect the sun. I have it reflecting more sky.

But I was trying to make a pleasing rendering, not a photograph. And to show how nice these SketchUp models can look when rendered with a little reflection. 😉

That last one is really cool. 😎

Except that the light in real photographs is much more harsh than this-there is no sky to soften the shadows...

damm, well im sure you can get something looking as good (if not better)

I suppose its a testament to how good renderign is these days that real life models and renders can be mixed up.

Oops - I posted the image to my previous post before I saw that you have made a new one.

I'll add it here (at full size), instead.

              http://wiki.renderplus.com/images/c/cd/Sid-plastic.jpg

(The jaggies around the image is because I rendered it to an alpha background, and placed it over the earth image, rather than rendering it directly on top of the earth image. Sorry...)

About enough for this model... I am anxious to grab something else from the 3D warehouse and try it...

Maybe this would be a better image:
(Note: this is a photograph of a plastic model, and not a rendering of a SketchUp model 😄 )

                from> http://www.keithmcneill.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/3c.html

Although to replicate it better, I need to set the materials to plastic rather than metal. 😄

I believe it is a photograph of a plastic model 😐

I'll make a rendering of the SketchUp model with plastic materials and post it here.

OK - I had to do one more - brightening up the image, and anti-aliasing the alpha border.

                    This is it though! 😄

One more note - In checking the Ratings on the 3D Warehouse, I see there is another rendering of this model:

                          Hi everybody.
Thanks for using my model for rendering tests.

This was the one I've done with Kerkythea.

If you'd like to see more rendered models you can visit or my site, or directly my web album at Picasa
All models are available in the Warehouse, except the Grendizer model, cause is still in progress.
