Radiohead to give away new album

Last Updated: 4:51pm BST 01/10/2007Radiohead, the internationally renowned band, has taken the unusual step of telling fans that they can pay as much or as little as they like for the band's new album In Rainbows.
Radiohead Hail to the Thief album cover
In a break from industry tradition the UK band famous for hits including Creep, Paranoid Android and Karma Police, has told fans "it's up to you" what they pay to digitally download the album. This isn't the first time that an artist has opted to charge nothing for its album, but the move is significant because Radiohead remains one of the biggest bands in the world.
Radiohead is free to sell its album directly from its official website because it is no longer tied to a record label. So far the album is only available to pre-order from the website, where it can be downloaded on release on October 10.
While loyal fans are likely to want to pay the band something, customers could opt to pay as little 45p - the credit card handling fee.
The album is also available separately as part of a Β£40 box-set which includes the album on CD, two vinyl records, a CD with additional songs, photos, artwork and lyrics.

ordered mine up for .46

I ordered mine for 6 Pounds I think that's about 13.00, I want to promote this, so I'm going to do what I can to make it profitable for them...
if I had the money I would drop 100... just to say thanks for doing this.
to me what this says, is "poor people can have our music too, but if you have the money, show your appreciation."
I dig it... can't wait to hear if the album is worth it, in the future you could listen to the album, and then pay what you think it was worth.
I would have given the Beatles $1000.00 for the white album... and that would have just been about 10 cents for every time I've listened to it.

but i'm a cheap bastard that hasnt paid for music in like 10 years..haha.. this was a stretch for me.
-
I understand... I'm a cheap bastage too... but I want more bands to do this... so we have to make it pay, and I'm sure that .46 paid for their costs... so that works for me.

It would be great if other bands did this as well, considering they don't make that much off of cd's anyway. It would be even better if bands I actually listen to would do this!
