You can't blame me for trying

He means that showing the URL of your website in public places creates a number of hits that push up the rating of the site on Google searches. That's how Google works: count how many websites link to your site, count how many people follow that link. More links and more clicks means higher in the search results.
Actually dropping the URL on many different sites is better for your rating than dropping it several times in the same forum/group, links are more important than clicks. Google caches every website, but it's not able to capture every click.

maggy, has hit the nail on the head... although I don't limit myself to GG I spread my love around... like here. and I try to make the post informative as well... but I do this to create both a good ranking from Google, and to bring true visitors that are highly related to my field... it does me no good to get a bunch of people looking for dog collars... I need people interested in architecture and even more so in unique architecture.
anyway point ... if you have a site, and you want it to be successful, get links to your site every day, in some way. related helpful content... and the users will come, that's why I'm here... to build some of that. we really should also be helping Coen and this group by posting, linking, blogging this site, on other sites.

So you're saying it's a commercial posting on a public website, designed to generate revenue.
Frankly, it sounds like spamming to me. Or like the "sponsored links" everyone is so indignant about at the old forum.
What I really don't understand is why you saw fit to mention it in this thread.

What if a dentist with Sketchup as hobby (or perhaps it could even be used to design dental work) would sign off in this forum as
Cheers
MZ
http://www.dentistinAmsterdam.nlwould that be spam? Nobody would click thal link unless you need a dentist in Amsterdam.
It would be spam otoh if he would post this signature in any odd forum without writing anything useful.
This thread is about visiting GG and I believe it's absolutely legitimate to use (not abuse) GG in this way. So I believe it's also perfectly on topic.poster-Maggy

Maggy,
I was certainly not expecting to encounter that kind of logic.

spamming, is to repeat the same thing over and over... people took the term over for mail sometime back. but if you are in a thread about architecture and my site is about architecture and I have just given you advice... then really it amounts to bibliography... then again everything I do is for revenue... being the Capitalist I am...

And the real bummer is that guy, or gal, doesn't get an answer, at least right now.
Google Groups seems to have resolved their server issues, although they were certainly having problems yesterday.
Since I have already been exposed to the Google Groups cooties many times with no noticeable ill-effects (although I realize that dulled sensibilities may itself be a symptom) I can swing by and confirm that your guy or gal has been answered. What was the issue or the name of the poster?

That is a very nice gesture, Gully. I can't remember the particulars of the poster, but it was about how to deform the faces of a cube to achieve a sagging effect. I talked about the Sandbox tools, and using Add Detail to get a grid on a cube so you can deform with Smoove. I also said you go make a grid from the raw, copy and rotate the face into a grid, and then start Smooving. I was in the Pro group (I think that is what it is called).

or "crash" for that matter, that is after the old SU forum gets shot down.
-
that forum got shot down last week, really. You can hear the echos and see the dust motes in that giant empty space, now.
I stop by once in a while to hear the sounds of silence.....................

late news
it is not the 28th of may but the 4th of June -
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've left to talk SU again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left GG while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence. In restless dreams I sketched alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a lamp component,
I turned my mouse away from cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
TFT
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence. And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing msgs that Google never shares
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.Pro's said oh,you do not know
Silence while our forum grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silenceAnd the masses bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the site flashed out its warning,
In the mess that it was forming.
And the Pro's said, the tutors of SUP
Are written on the Sketchucation board
Great rubies too.
And not heard in the sounds of silence.poster-Maggy

Wow, Maggy, that was awesome.
Why do I feel that we will be referencing parts of that song for years.

You're all welcome to quote those lyrics, but for all honesty and for the youngsters in this forum I have to thank Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel for laying the foundations.
