What should the basic setup be for a computer eg. video card, ram etc.
I have 1gb of ram and a 1.6 processer P4, but every time I make a model and add trees my system slows, slows down I have to wait sometime ten minutes before I can save or even turn the trees off to do some more work on the model. I get the white screen until it calculates everything then returns, I can't even zoom or pan.
    Any help would be welcome.
    Thanks

Anssi mentions a coulple things you may want to try in THIS POST

        to quote him..

To make SU go faster you can, for instance

        • turn off textures and shadows
        • hide parts of your model that you are currently not working with
        • use 2D cutouts (with alpha-channel transparency) for trees and people instead of 3D components
        • replace taxing 3D components with simple placeholder objects, and reload them when your model is finished.

The last bullet in that list would probably help you a lot in this case, especially if you're using 3D trees.

You have not mentioned your graphics card. Is it onboard graphics or do you have a dedicated GPU?
1gb of ram is fine - 2 is better but 1 will run SU without a problem.

Your processor is not the most powerful and a better one could see some slight improvement.

The thing to remember though, if you are working with 3d trees and plants, even the most powerful of computers will have problems eventually. You need to be smart in the way you do things.
Use layers to control visibility of your trees.

          Moving to the Hardware Forum.
