Housebuilder ruby script
-
First of all (this being my first post on this forum), hi there to everybody here, thanks to the people at the old sketchup forum for the URL to this forum in their sig's. I had a look at the new (Google) home of the sketchup forum and wasn't too impressed, seems disorganised and amateurish, or maybe I had some of the board setting wrong, but whatever the reason, I'm here now.
Onto the reason I created this topic, the housebuilder.rb script. I just recently got SU6 and am looking into the various ruby scripts and happen to come along the housebuilder ruby which is now also available in metric as well (essential since we in South Africa use the metric system, come to think of it, so does pretty much the rest of the world).
I have a few questions that I'd like some answers to:
- What is the latest version of this ruby script?
- Is it fully compatible with SU6?
- How do I go about defining my own timber sizes (there are quite a few more that we use here in SA) in the script variables?
- Please link an URL from where I can download it.
Many thanks.

Juju,
Last version at my site, because I made the metric version myself.
If you want another sections, you would have to give them to me and I will implement them because they are "hard-coded" in some way.

Hi Didier, thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Great site you have there, I see the housetool and housetool01 requires the sketchup ruby, which isn't compatible with SU6. Pity, since they seem to be uite useful from their descriptions.
How many of the old ruby scripts do you think won't be compatible with SU6?
With regard to the standard timber sizes we use in SA, I'll send you a PM with the matrix, a little too tired right now, almost midnight here.

The Housebuilder Ruby works fine with SU6. The Sketchup.rb just lives in another folder now so its still accessable to Housebuilder.
The biggest issues so far with Rubys in general have been issues of how Mac OSX treats rubies and features that are implementable in MSW that don't exist on the Mac side. The biggest problems I have seen have been with ones that are not in plain text as minor errors cannot easily be fixed without the author making the change. For the most part all my rubies from SU5 work with 6. Even older versions of them. For instance I use an old version of the K-tools.rb that I prefer as its more reliable at small scales and I like the interface better (I think its from 2005).
Overall Ruby doesn't seem to be too affected by the change.

Dear Didier, attached is a TXT file containing the standard sizes in metric and in mm.
I would have sent it to you via PM, however you've chosen not to let board members send you PM's, so here it is. Please PM me if you have any queries or need to let me know that the script is ready. I just thought I'd let you now that SketchUp is taking off quite a bit in South Africa, so this ruby would not only be for myself, there is a whole country that will be glad to have it. Thanks in advance, once again.
+++ EDIT +++
OK, so the board isn't taking TXT files... Here's a cut & paste from what was in the file.

Ok Juju,
It's a matter of hours or days...
Tomorrow maybe, if I can get it to work OK with these fu***g PNG icons that sometimes don't display correctly on some machines (still don't know why, maybe I'll provide Gif's instead).
Regards,
