It's not much but I needed a sketch to illustrate how a drawer is built in the NK style for someone who wants to build one. A picture being worth a thousand words, it was quicker to draw than type. Obviously no joinery shown for the drawer box since it wasn't germaine to the discussion.

Hand drawn wood grain textures (intentionally low res) and the Pencil Speed line style (slightly modified) from the SUC Pencil styles available in the Sketchucation Shop.

Sweet! I've never built drawers this way, but have been curious to try. perhaps this will be the kick in the pants I've needed. Have you ever used them yourself, Dave? Best,
        MK

It's been many years since I have used drawers like that but they make sense to me. The drawer bottom assembly is easier to fit than a whole drawer box, the box isn't quite as wide as the bottom assembly so the sides won't touch anything, the runners can be made of hardwood while the drawer box sides can be softwood if appropriate and, if you don't glue the bottom assembly to the box, it can be replaced if the runners get too worn out. Or if you screw the runners to the bottom, they can be replaced if needed. The runners could be made of Delrin if you need a slicker material although waxing wooden ones would work, too.

Yes, they do make a lot of sense in certain situations. I made a pair of bedside tables for clients last year from hardwood T&G flooring they had left over. The insides of the carcase was rough as, each board bowed or cupped and too much work to flatten them. So the NL method was just the ticket. A simple matter to fit each drawer bottom nicely, and then fit the sides clear of the carcase.
