Making Multiple Part Labels
-
I have a large file with many parts that I have turned into an excel BOM using SpaceDesign. I'm trying to make labels to stick on every part for easy identification but I can only find ways to make one of each label.
I'd love to be able to go
part 1 - 10 labels
part 2 - 8 labelsBased on the quantity of each item shown in the BOM
Word has an option to do this but it doesn't take into account the quantity of each label meaning you only get one of each and I need many of each.Anyone had experience with this kind of thing?

It's been a long time since I've done labels but you should be able to make multiple labels with the same text. Another thought would be to make a spreadsheet in Excel with the list of part names and any other info you want to include on the label. Copy rows as many times as you need for each part. Then use the columns as fields for auto text in Word like you would for creating mailing labels. It's still a bit of manual work in Excel but not really hard.

It gets a bit tedious when you've got many models to process with hundreds of different parts in each and individual quantities of those parts well into the thousands...

Understood. Perhaps there's some sort of custom label making software out there that would read the required quantity of each label from a list.
So you might need hundreds of a given label? I bet you could find a company to print them for less than you can buy the label stock. Give them the text for each label you need made and you'll get back a box filled with rolls of labels. You can even make them different colors if that would be helpful.

Yeah, if anyone else needs a similar solution, this works well but isn't cheap:

Do you need bar codes on your labels, too?

Not right now - but the interface was so easy to use and I was tearing my hair out trying to get anything else to work
