Saw this piece on the One Kings Lane web site recently, and finally found some time to do the model. The original was made in the 1980s, in mahogany. I imagine that the center post is made in sections, with a big, fat round tenon on one piece fitting into a socket on the piece below. Everything above the top step is one piece, turned with the beads you see. The posts at the end of the steps are turned, too, and the square sections are mortised for tenons in the curved stretchers. And, yes, the rise from the floor to the first step is different from the rise on the remaining steps; that's in the original, too. I did the rendering in Shaderlight.
