You can use the two construction points in each component to position them fast in the Xray view...Cotty, I like using lines or faces for that sort of thing. Construction points get erased with:
Edit > Delete guides
Lines might also get erased by accident when editing and using erase stray edges, wich I use often as a shortcut.
I usually draw a small square divided by a cross. The end points of the lines work as reference for insertion and rotate in 3D
