Built-in Bookcase/TV Cabinet

this is something I worked up for a client who wants a built-in bookcase to fit between their existing fireplace and a doorway. They also wanted to include a television. There's not a whole lot of space available and their first idea made it look like too much furniture packed into a too-small room.
The black panel below the TV would hide a DVD player and/or a DVR unit. I expect the panel would be smoked acrylic or frosted glass so the remote control would work without opening the front. The client wants to mount the television on an articulated arm so it can be pulled out of the case a bit and positioned as desired.
As you can tell, I didn't spend much time on this. I could have done a better job on applying the texture but I figured there wouldn't be much return on the time investment.

For ะผะต everything is clear. The only downside is that the extra space is not used as the wall has a 90 deg angle. How much space behind the cabinets! And how to clean the dust on the top shelf. Such small space between ceiling and cabinets

Yes. There is some wasted space in the corner but it wouldn't be usable if the cases were at right angles anyway. And the TV wouldn't fit either. As for dusting at the top, a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool will take care of that.

Nice, given all the client's restrictions. I have the perfect accompaniment: a sofa designed in the 1940s by Frits Henningsen, in mahogany and black leather. Saw it on 1stdibs.com . Didn't add any joinery to this one--I was more interested in the overall size and the shape of the arms.

Such a small TV forever?

David, that's a nice job on the sofa. It's funny you should bring up sofas. The cabinetmaker who would be building this has been working on the client to replace their big over stuff recliner couch but they won't think about it. It doesn't fit in the room very well and causes some limitations on what we could do in there.
Carsten, the client is more interested in books than in TV. They'd need a bigger room to make a larger TV a good idea anyway. If I was designing this for myself, I wouldn't have a television in the room at all. But then I don't watch television.

A nice opportunity with some sturdy rollers to have concealed storage behind, or perhaps just access to cabling and such.

I thought about the concealed storage but due to client limitations on price, that's out. Access to cabling is a must, though.

I just thought for the price of eight good rollers and a latch or two you could roll the small bookshelf out which would then give you room to pivot the TV section to give plenty of cable access. You don't actually need to build the rack for them to store the skeleton on.

Old habits die hard for me, my Fathers house you need a map to find all the hidden cupboards and passages and even in my house several rooms are only accessible via bookcases.
