Thread textures

The attached is something I have put together to represent threads in steel components.
Unzip the attached and put the folder into your Materials folder inside Google Sketchup 6. I suggest you rename the folder ISO Metric Threads Steel and leave off the vertical as it seems to work in all orientations.
How to use. Draw your hole, say dia. 10 mm to represent M10. Go to your Materials browser and select ISO Metric Threads Steel from the library. Using the paint bucket, select M10 (I suggest you display the details rather than the thumbnails). Click on the inner surface of the hole. Also works on external threads, but slight defects in texture show up when you orbit around the part, but you have got to be in quite close.
If anyone would like to improve on this then I can send them the original .jpg image from which I made the textures. The original image is slightly skew and is in various shades of grey. I have not tried altering the colours to represent different metals, such as copper, but I'm sure that all things are possible in Sketchup.

I wonder if you could do a ruby based on inserting these textures+an appropriate hole at specified locations? perhaps include countersinking and stuff as well...

Sorry, I am not a script writer, but yes, I could image a Ruby which not only created the hole, but applied the texture too.
I imagine that such a script would use a construction point and a surface to determine the centre-point and centre-line of the hole. Options might include diameter (clearance hole), depth and thread type (applied texture), with 'through all' or 'to next' being an option when the hole connects parallel surfaces. Perhaps someone could modify Didier's opener.rb which will push/pull a circular area to the next surface (http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/em_edi_page.htm). Interestingly, Didier's script will push-pull multiple circular areas simultaneously, a feature that might be exploited to create an array of holes.

Hi everybody,
does anyone know how to represent (I clearly say REPRESENT) a thread in sketchup, and/or layout?
I don't mean to create a physical thread around a shaft or in a hole, but purely and simply get the ISO representation of a thread. In other words, the three-quarter-of-a-circle,around the circle corresponding to an actual shaft or hole.
I used to use Pro/E, and there was a "cosmetic" function, that would display a red-color cercle around the 3D model, and then represent on the 2D drawing the thread.
I need this because I make some mechanical drawings, and I haven't found how to do so.
