Hello Thomas, I’ve been trying to find someone to help me,
I’m looking for a plugin for Sketchup that will let me use the mouse scroll and keyboard arrows at the same time.

I was using Archicad and it had the option “explore model” it basically lets you use the arrows to move forward, backwards, left and right AND at the same time by just moving the mouse you can change the view direction. It would be the same as using in Sketchup the mouse scroll and keyboard arrows at the same time (but it’s much easier not to use the scroll and just move the mouse in the direction you want to move).

It would have an icon and by clicking on it the mouse would change to this proprieties.
I don’t find any plug-in to do this and I don’t think Sketchup have that option.
By my opinion as an avid user of CAD programs this is the best way to explore a model in 3D.

I would do the plug-in myself but I just can’t seem to understand the way to do it.
Can someone please make this (that would be) amazing plug-in?

Have you tried using the Walk tool? It's button looks like a pair of shoes.

I noticed this the other day:

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for.

Yes I’ve tried the “Walk tool”. I´ve been using Sketchup for a looong time. There´s not that many secrets in it for me. That´s why I had to come to sketchUcation and ask the experts in the developing of the plug-ins.

The “walk tool” has a fundamentally different way of doing things. In order to change the view direction you have to click with the mouse and use the “look around” and when that happens you lose the link to the keyboard arrows.

This plug-in that I’m hoping someone could develop it´s perfect in its simplicity. It would work much like in a video game (or archicad) in a continuous stream. And make it easier to put yourself in the position of a real person walking inside the house.

              Hi Tim,
The Fly through works yes, thank you for that 😄 it’s not exactly the same. The mouse still needs to be clicked but it will give me some help.
              Thanks for the fast response.

i don't know about a plugin, but i use a 3d mouse in addition to a normal mouse, one in each end

the 3d mouse is only to move the camera, and the normal mouse is to modify the model

it is much quicker than switching with one mouse between the camera type tools and the editing type tools

I guess the 3D mouse could be an option... if the plugin can´t be found or written.
But I believe a plugin will be possible. "Fly Through" plugin is nearly there. I'll keep on searching.

                    Many thanks.

                      actually, you don't need a 3d mouse

it works with 2 normal mouses, one in each hand: you can zoom and move simultaneously

Using the 2 mouses works and its useful in modeling objects. But I'm looking for a different approach. Simpler. And with the keyboard moving on all sides and the "look around" tool at the same time.

Since this is about Camera control, it sparked a remembrance of an earlier concept presented by "bentlykfrog"/ Niall Campbell: Floating Camera. The plugin is available in the PluginStore. Again, it may not be exactly what you are looking for.

Much like " Fly through" The "FPS Nav" also have the same problem: you need to click the mouse in order for it to work. and in the "FPS Nav" you have to use the scroll in the mouse... all very complicated, three or four things at the same time doesn't leave much space to like what you are doing.

The "Floating Camera" as it's good things, but it's just me or it's almost impossible to control it?

                                My dream:
Keyboard keys left right front and backwards and the "look around" key at the same time. BUT without the need to click the mouse. just moving the mouse you can change the view direction. Activating the plugin automatic would change the mouse to this proprieties.

The "Fly Through" plugin is almost there.

So, until then, I would also suggest to look at the 3dconnexion products. I think you would appreciate the "joy-puck".
