What annoyes me even more is, that I can see Susan has been online, but that she haven't even written a short THANK YOU...

That's not very surprising, given the, er, atmosphere. πŸ˜’

Eehhh... You need to elaborate here, Tom... 😐

I don't see a bad atmosphere or anything, but even if the atmosphere was a little tense, I would still show my gratitude, if I had asked others for help... 😐

        Cheers, Jeff... πŸ‘ πŸ˜„

          Hey Frederick,

Here's my gratitude! I just remembered a project where this will be perfect. It will take some time to finish, but some shelves will be fast to fill! Thanks and best regards,

Well Tom that is definetelly true, however the post title and all the attitude related to it is justified IMHO.

Title: Model 'Tea Tin' for Pay - wich implies someone needs a job well done and is willing to pay for it

First post text: asking for help giving the subject and nicely put (though didn't mention payment conditions or specifying anything about payment)

Replies: First of the responses was pretty amusing as an advanced user should be able to do this so fast that it really is wasted time to post here. As always in this forum there are several responses and then, someone with 20minutes spare time takes his time to help. I am absolutely sure that Frederick didn't even bother to read that there was payment involved at the title. Even if the job was simple enough, modeling, texturing, material and lighting really came out perfectly.

Conclusion#1: No reply from the author, no thanks (I shouldn't even bother about talkinf of payment)

Conclusion#2: The community (me actually) comes out with a simple yet excellent model for another project. Nothing is wasted here wich is great, but "here" exists because of willingful people that share and thank.

If I must apologize to cool down the "er atmosphere", well I do sincerely.

As far as I see this she didn't asked anything for free. Sometimes there are requests like this but with more complicated things, and then people just say I have sent you a message or say nothing and send messages. Why would now be different ?

It doesn't matter how simple things are if you don't have time to model them. This was a simple interview and I took the advantage and now I have done about a dozen of other models for her, and indeed she is busy.

I hope you don't mind, do you ?

Elisei, I'm not altogether sure what you're saying. Why would I mind?

You have a nice weekend too, Gilles.

That last line was not addressed especially to you but to you all who felt they were not appreciated properly in this matter.
I am actually happy that there are people who help more than me, without expecting something in return . But I am glad I judged this offer properly .

I hope you don't mind I took this small job and I keep my client busy !

I certainly didn't want to stir up a flame war...
All I wanted was, that Susan posted a short "Thank you" - or even "F*** you"... 😐
(Assuming that the latter is more appropriate, as I didn't apply Vray materials...)

I could just have posted the model without any comments at all... (wish I had)
I'm also quite busy and I also require help now and then, but I always remember to write a short "Thanks"... (I'm surprised to learn that it's too much to ask... πŸ˜• )

Kind of scary atmosphere around here.

                                1. The OP posted a job.

                                2. She was told she should do it herself (no, it wouldn't have taken less time to model it, light it and render it in V-Ray than to post the job offer)

                                3. Then several people, clearing without communicating a price to the OP, posted models that were not rendered in V-Ray so had no use to her.

                                4. She was then criticized for not saying Thank You for something she wasn't asking for.

                                5. Sheesh!

I'm glad to see that at least one person understood this was a simple job offer, responded appropriately and, presumably, delivered the work and got paid. Not sure what all the rest of the heat was about.

I'd be ashamed to take money for such a simple model... 😐

Took me less than 15 minutes...
You forget one important thing here... Susan have set her SU level to advanced...
Before you navigate to SCF, post the thread, upload the image, you've spend at least 5 minutes...
The model itself can be created in equal time and then she only needed to spend additional time setting up materials for Vray and make the render...
However, if she's very busy, she wouldn't waiste time - and money - waiting for someone to make it for her...

Several people...?? I only see one user posting a model here... πŸ˜•
Although materials wasn't set up for Vray, the model is UV-mapped...
Is it really that difficult to setup materials in Vray...?

Like I mentioned earlier... It's fair if she couldn't figure out how to make it... I also consider myself an Advanced user of SU, however, sometimes I also find simple models difficult to make, until someone guides me in the right direction...

Regardless of this, and although she might not have been able to use the model I posted, or got it done behind the curtain, it's bad practise/manner not to come back to the thread posted and say anything at all...

I've also asked for help now and then, but never got a useful answer... Should I just leave it then...??

                                    Cheers

So? Maybe she doesn't have the time to model that tea tin herself, or maybe she simply doesn't feel like it? Who knows? You don't -yet you are second-guessing her motives, over and over. Where I come from, that'd be considered rude.

I know this is the internet and all, but at least some decorum would be nice.

I think we should leave this discussion at this point because it is not SketchUcation like anymore. Let us wait for a response from Susan and not pour oil on the fire of the bad athmosphere which no one had intended (I bet and hope) ...

IMO Ely862me's post shed a completely new light to this topic. She didn't really need a model of a Tea Tin.

She needed somebody who could demonstrate that he/she could complete the task precisely, exactly as specified, quickly for a decent price. As Ely862me stated it was a job interview.

Of couse nobody knew this at the beginning. Even I tried to model this tin as a learning lesson but when Frederik posted his version it was far better then my attempt.

If we take a look at it as a job interview it might explain her behaviour. Anyhow this was a very interesting, informative and useful thred for me and probably for others as well.

Thank you to everybody who participated. πŸ˜„
