Since switching to Sketchup 2013 my models show heavy marks at each intersection. I have searched all the options and can't find how to turn this off. How do I do this?

It sounds like a style thing. You probably selected a template whose default style has Endpoints turned on. Go to the Styles window, click the Edit tab and then the wireframe cube icon just below the tabs. Untick the box for Endpoints. Also untick Extensions if they are turned on. Finally, click on the thumbnail for the style in the upper left corner of the Styles window to make the changes permanent for the model.

Edit to add: Since you probably won't want endpoints turned on for the next model you draw, open a fresh copy of SketchUp, edit the style as above and then go to File>Save as template... and save it as your new default template. You might find there are other changes you want to make to the style, too so poke around the settings in the Styles window.
