Looking for anyone's first hand experience using something other than a typical mouse with sketchup. I am about to start a new design (residential construction) for a client and am considering buying another type of input device. Right now I'm using a Logitech Performance MX mouse and it works pretty well but I'm sure my experience could be improved with another type of device. Anyone have a gadget they love or hate?

I searched around and didn't see a similar thread, if there is one please let me know.

I'm a pretty fast modeler and use shortcuts for just about everything. I do very detailed models, I essentially model every component of the house, studs, joists, insulation, drywall, trim, vapor barriers, etc.. I use sketchup to see how it will all fit together and find any difficult areas before we even break ground. Side bonus is that I also have all of my quantities figured out when the model is done.

Thanks for any light you can shed...

Best advice is not to try learn a new device now, it took me about a month to get comfortable with a 3D mouse (space explorer) Get the job done then play and learn new devices.

I see the logic but the truth is I really only use sketchup when I'm working on a project so no matter when I get it I will always be learning on the job. After the break-in period how do you feel about the space explorer? Do you find it to be noticeably better than a mouse? If so, in what ways?

you are using the gaming glove with SU? It looks cool, love the idea of cyborg modeling tech. I will look at it a little more closely

It's simply a keyboard on your hand.

Like I said it takes getting used to, however once you are comfortable it's a huge performance boost to your modeling, at least that is how it was for me. Mine has since broken (well it's erratic, stops and starts, buttons do not work all the time) and I do not know if I will replace it or just use a mouse as I use many other software now that do not use these devices and the changing constantly can become a pain. If I win one on SCF that will be another story. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Side note, I checked out your site. Amazing work, I love the concept and design of the little tent buildings. Very well done.

Currently they only make a left hand, so it's for right handed people. They are planning to make a right hand for Devil worshiping lefthanders soon.
