Why have I never heard of this format? Have I been living under a rock? I probably wouldn't want to use it too much. Web browsers all support it, but I don't like handing out vector. It doesn't seem like SketchUp supports it in either export or import. Have you used it and if so what for?

I see where Inkscape handles SVG and GIMP handles it as well. I am not sure about other graphics programs.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

          04 export dxf

SVG is an intriguing format. Its text based structure and well defined, formal syntax allow lots of interesting possibilities particularly generating drawings programatically from scripts etc

                😆 Perhaps you have...

I know that you're quite active here at SCF and I know that you're using LayOut, but you seem to have missed my post in the Layout wishlist, where I wrote:

3.) Import/insert some vector graphic formats to LO.
I'm aware that the user can convert an inserted SketchUp view to vector images, render the viewport as Vector and then explode it, however, since you're unable to import svg-, ai-, eps-, wmf- into SU, the user will still need to draw the object in SU prior to inserting it in LO.
I don't expect all vector formats to be available,[highlight=#ffff40:ordmnbnn]but a format like SVG should be available IMO...[/highlight:ordmnbnn]

I'm within the mechanical engineering business and need to make P&ID's for all projects.
All symbols required to make these P&ID's are available in svg-format at i.e. Wikimedia Commons

                Cheers

Yeah I'm a bit surprised they don't support it. Leave it to you to have already asked. 😉

SVG has been very useful for me sometimes in the past and talking about SVG and inkscape, the fastest way to export a Layout/Sketchup file to inkscape is by exporting to pdf and importing the pdf in inkscape.

Inkscape's format is svg but it can save in many svg versions. The best part is that it can mix vector and raster formats, expanding on the presentation possibilities of both sketchup and Layout. This way you can turn any of your presentations in rich 2d content using a lot of features in inkscape and be able to present that content in multiple supports, including rich web content.
