              3D printing is going to change the world, and here is a perfect example, that chair would be put on the tip normally, 10 kilos of steel, fabric, plastic, etc. I've done it myself. But now we can repair and indeed improve our material world.

                Yes. And for more complicated parts that commonly need replacing, where the manufacturer has no incentive to make and ship to end user, experts might provide digital models for DL by average consumers. Better yet one might scan the old one and make the repair digitally for printing.
