      For those in the US...

There has been a new fiber optic line run through our neighborhood and we have been visited by them for a new promotion.

Basically we would save about $35 a month and receive a $150 gift card or the free rental of an X-box 360. Guess which one my daughter said she wanted.

We are currently with Knology (which was just bought by WOW).

I know hardly anything about Uverse other than what the salesman pitched. We had bad billing issues with AT&T over 13 years ago which is why we switched and did not look back. I will start researching myself but wanted to get opinions here as well.

      Thanks for any feedback.

Check the pricing and see what happens after the initial "new customer" period expires. I had AT&T for quite a while when I lived in TX and while the service was ok, the price continually escalated. They give a great deal and then it slowly goes up after the first 6 months/year/whatever. I started out at $35 (this was 10 years ago) and by the time I left their service 2 years later the price had more than doubled. They didn't give me nothing for my money, though - there were continual bandwidth improvements throughout the time I used their service. Just not double. We're with Comcast now, and they do the same thing. Great initial price, but you gotta look a the other end and see what the real price is going to be.

So, my experience with AT&T was good speed and reliability (Cable/cable internet), but ever-increasing price.

Maybe prejudice but I always avoid ATT after past experience.

I've not had much contact with ATT in the past, but we had the exact same thing a few years ago where U-Verse was installed locally, so we upgraded. It was cheaper than my old DSL and significantly faster. Its not true fiber optics - at least not here. Its fiber optics to their switching station or whatever its called, then its like DSL to the house or something. So it is not nearly as fast as unthrottled fiber optics. Its more like a great DSL connection. Its not even as fast as cable. But it is 1/2 the price of cable, and I hate cable a lot.

Anyhow, we've been using it for a few years here and we've enjoyed it.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.
