Here's a twin bed model I worked up based on a bed designed for cabins in a state park in Texas back in 1936. I have a bit of detail work left and I should put in a mattress and box springs.

This is a bit of a challenge because there are contradictory dimensions on the same sheet. For example in the upper right corner of the original plan, the bed posts are shown at 2-5/8 in. sq. while in the lower left corner they are shown at 2-1/2 in. square.

The original beds were to be made of walnut. I bet there was fairly easy access to some big walnut back in those days.

        Dave,
Is it possible that the dimensions aren't contradictory? That the posts for the headboard are supposed to be slightly fatter than the ones for the footboard?

I thought about that possibility but both posts are shown in one part of the plan with the same dimensions.

At least you have some dimensions. I'm working on another model from an early issue of Fine Woodworking. The drawings in the magazine are missing several necessary dimensions, which, of course, makes modeling a royal pain.

Best guess is all you can do.
