A combination of 1 and 2. I like the sides if 1, and the split seat of 2. The split seat means that one can look for stored items while seated. Think about those stiff joints and tired legs. The curved sides should have a hand rest section near the lower edge to aid in 'pushing up' when getting up from the seat. Watch how elderly people get out of a chair.

    Regards,
    Bob

I like number 6 too, but I would have thought that the arm rests should be a bit lower and the bottom shelf set back to avoid catching ankles.

All great input..I will no doubt be tweeking the design after I meet with my friends..a couple in their late 60s and his MOM who is 97 I believe.

btw...the designs morphed from what my preference was...#1 to various attempts to add arms and make them work. I do like the split seat so one can be seated while sifting through the amalgam of left/right and missing gloves, hats and ice cletes etc.

Feel free to tinker with the designs.

I kind of expected at least a patronizing comment from DaveR

I guess the topic question caused his silence!

Dave, "None of them" is an acceptable comment.

Come on wood workers! Don't you have a computer in the shop area????

            LOL

I am partial to #6, but I might try the side/arm of #1 on #6

I'm sorry Michael. I didn't intend to slight you or your shoe benches. I've just been busy with other things.

I like No.7. The back from No.6 on No.1 πŸ˜„ My expectation with the others is that I would wind up banging my elbows if I sat on them to tie my shoes. I do like the applied top rail on the arm rests, though. I think you could add something like that on this version. Put a rail on top of the back rest, too. πŸ˜‰

p.s. If you'd used components instead of groups, I could have modified your number one more quickly. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜‰

(Oops. I missed that Trimguy66 came up with the same idea.)

I like Dave's idea of the applied rail on the arm rests,

I tried adding one to the back, but just didn't look right to me.

I say build it and mount a plaque in remembrance of this lady. When her friends use it they will always think of her.

Nice design. Can you tell me how you did the sepia style version, very nice look to that.

Wonderful! Good for you. The rails are perfect and I like the full round arches-gives it an extra bit of character.
