Take a look at Google Street View, tried an update called "treasure hunt" and take a look at the definition, you can see a pimple on a dimple on a fleas knacker from 100m (well almost). Seems only B&W and lacking a few features but says it's only Beta ATM.

Hello Pete. The quality of the Images is what I meant, not sure about America but those updated images are 10x better than I've seen before.
