Need Plugin - Color by Layer to Material

I need a quick and easy way to convert all the "color by layer" materials to actual painted on materials. I know others have run into this problem from browsing the forums but I haven't seen a solution yet. It seems like someone could write a plugin for this or there might even by a ruby console thing for it.
Any help?

I don't think the default layer color is accessible through a plugin at least I haven't been able to find anything in the API that allows it.
