[Plugin] Upload model with custom thumbnail β 12.01.2013
-
I also agree that it should be used with care... However even nowadays some people upload the files with an image or something in front of the camera and when you download it, you realize that what you got is not what you expected from the thumbnail image. Nevertheless the 3D view will always reveal the true model before downloading.
@Aerilius, could you consider this small FR above?

If I could have a suggestion however... Currently there are two, top-level entries in the Plugin menu for this plugin. Could you arrange them into one main entry and two submenu items? Like many, I also struggle with a too long list of plugins (even that I have disabled many that I do not use ATM).
(I know I should be able to edit/modify your plugin but I am not sure how - without screwing it up...)

Hi there, what is proper size of 3D Warehouse window, please? I tried to uploud several images, but never wass filled whole window...
Thanks
-
They want max. 800x600 images there (I think). That's a 4:3 aspect ratio (that is certain) image and will be reduced a bit but fill the window vertically. It will never fill the window horizontally though (neither do the images automatically generated by the WH software).

I uploaded a new version with support for Unicode file names.

What a cool plugin, Aerilius!
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=92212c6c19acb8b94e9c9efd1560014eI guess many people in the Warehouse will hate you though. From now on, no-one can trust that what we see is what we get.
i agree !

Hi Aurelius,
I am not sure whether I am too late to post to this topic or whether my question has relativity, but one thing that annoys me in SU is the the inability for each file to bear an custom icon of the model rather than simply the SU generic icon. I have so many models that I can not remember them all by name and need unique images for each icon. Currently I use a slow process of taking a screen snapshot of the model then copy and pasting this into the File info.
Can your plugin be adapted to automate the process of adding a custom icon to the SU model files I keep on my machine?
Cheers...>Scotty

Hi,
this plugin has a very different scope than what you need. File thumbnails work very differently and the approach of this plugin does not offer a solution for file thumbnails. This forum is full of discussions about thumbnails (ie. no thumbnails on Win64bit, small thumbnails on OS X), and many workarounds [1][2][3]. If you need a file to always the same thumbnail of the model from a specific perspective, you can make use of SketchUp's feature in "Model Info" to disable updating the thumbnail on save. -
[off:1waa3eoz]%(#BF0000)[This plugin has no use anymore.
This plugin was designed to hook into SketchUp's upload process to the old Google 3D Warehouse. The old warehouse did not generate thumbnails server-side, so this plugin replaced the temporary image file on the user's computer during the upload process. The new Trimble 3D Warehouse generates preview images their servers so that there is no use for this plugin anymore.][/off:1waa3eoz] -
