Weak Link?
-
I recently purchased a Samsung series 7 laptop.
The Specs:
i7 - 2675QM 2.2 GHZ
8 GB DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750MSketchup runs fairly well on it, but I have been having trouble with Kerkythea. It is extremely slow and unresponsive at times. It renders quite nicely, but the setup process is painful. The skp files I have been working with usually run from 30-60 MB. I have been watching my RAM usage and it usually doesn't go above 60 percent.
My first thought is to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB. Would this be the answer?

Does anyone have any opinions on this?
More RAM? Bad Kerkythea install? Insufficient graphics card?

Are you sure you have a graphics card? Quick look at spec leads me to think not.
Su runs as a 32 bit application and does not use dual cores.
If you do have a graphics card make sure it is forced to use it for SU. I would think the memory you have now should be ok but make sure the bios setup has memory remapping selected and use max memory deselected if you even have those options -

With Kerkythea you need to select amout of cores from "start render" -panel, as by default only one is used. Stable version of kerkythea is 32 bit app, so adding more ramm will not help (same with SU). Adding more ram will not speed up your computer, unless you running some 64 bit programs AND you running out or RAM (swapping to HD will slow down a lot).
There is a 64 bit develop version of kerkythea available trough kerkythea forums, but I'd dont suggest to install it, unless you ready to tweak a bit. Read trough http://www.kerkythea.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10401 -
I do have Kerkythea Echo Boost installed on my laptop and my desktop. I'm still learning, but i'm getting fairly adapt to using Kerkythea. I always pick 8 cores when rendering, although like I said, it renders great. Its just the setup process. Kerkythea seems to hang and take forever to navigate the model and make changes.
My desktop has an i7 2600 and Kerkythea runs very smooth on that.
