Thanks Pilou!! That's a great suggestion! But it would be greater if you have components that are copied on a surface...mmmm

Nothing like that at this point. I have a script that copies components onto faces and I think it might even scale them according to the area of the face. But it does not warp them to fit the face. Its been one of the scripts I've wanted to write for years now and I still have not gotten around to it.

Just played with component2faces plugin because of this thread..

..Chris, does your plugin really scale the component according to face size? That would be very interesting!

As Pilou shows it really depends on what exactly you want to model. There are many solutions in SU, but after all it has not exactly parametric modeling features and such.

There are some interesting threads about this topic, such as

Hehe, I don't know. Maybe it doesn't. I wrote it years ago and haven't played with it since 😳

              I'll go look into it.

EDIT: Looks like it does not. Must have been something I toyed with while developing it, or just dreamed about doing. Sorry!

                Hey Chris!

Well your plugin, which is great by the way, does the job in another way...What really would be great is a plugin that 'fits' a component to a surface. So first you select a surface, then a component and finally the amount of components to be copied...I think this will give a LOT of possibillities and would be very very powerfull(also great for organic structures etc etc)...

I've tried to achieve what you have described but it's not easy with a component-spray type tool. I tried it with just quadrangulated faces too to no avail.

Fur plugin will distribute components across a face, can even change size, rotation, amount per face etc. What I can't stop is the random distribution of said components and the relationship with each other. A plugin like this would be fantastic.

We had this same conversation a year ago.

No one could solve it then either. When you say "'fits' a component to a surface", I take that to mean actually warping the component much like Shape Bender does on a curve. Is that a correct assumption?

Nothing is worthless, it can always be used as a bad example.

You might look into Kirill LSS tools. I'm not sure it does exactly what you want, but it might help. The products that Kiril is able to get out of his plugin are pretty spectacular.

Hey Sdmitch....Thanks for the link and yes this is exactly what I mean..."Panelisation"...And Olishea, your right, if there will be a plugin which can do so, it would indeed be fantastic!!!
...Oh...and Chris I've been looking to the Kirill LSS tools and you're right that is is powerfull but it can't do "panelisation" πŸ˜‰!

Why not use the Joint Push Pull by Fredo 6 on the surface
then the Mutiple faces Offset By Remus
then JPP again in the other way ? πŸ˜‰

Pilou I already tried something similar with JPP and greeble, it doesn't quite come out as expected if your mesh isn't exactly right...mixture of tris/quads not very nice. What if you want a different shape too?

I used sculpt tool on an offset grid with artisan and got some crazy results I didn't expect!! β˜€
