SCF members opinions needed on site advertising!
-
My answer is missing.
"I use AdBlock on most of the sites I visit but there are exceptions"
(OR: "I do NOT use AdBlock on selected sites")
-
I have nothing against the ads here at SCF. However I dislike the oneliner ads that has reappeared at the bottom of all threads.
IF they are necessary they should be marked with a different color so that they are not mistaken for a user post. -

SCF has some of the best targeted advertsing I've seen. It's a 3d related site that adevertises 3d related things. No penis enhacers , no guaranteed 50000$ dollars prizes, etc...
The advertising here is pretty discreet and useful , but I do agree about that last on line advert and I'm glad it's taken care of.
I personally don't bother with adblock software. If a site has excesive stupid adverts than I'll rarely visit it anyway. I really hate those adverts that just pop up in front of an article you want to read and have to wait till you can close them and the X button is all over the place.

No, Mike is doing an excellent job with collecting relevant advertisers. In fact, no-one can advertise here before the ad is approved. I remember once a dating (?) site also signed up and he went and declined and paid back instead of allowing the ad (and now that I am married already, I have no problem with that of course)

Yes, back on topic
The ideal aim for an advertiser should be IMO to provide some kind of information that the viewer will be happy to learn. It does not always have to be related directly to the product but the viewer will most definitely register where he received the info and that the important thing as it builds loyalty.
The system we use, http://www.buysellads.com, allows the advertisers to change the banner as much as they like, I have to approve, but this only takes a minutes and I don't mind doing it.
Some of our advertisers change the banners on a regular basis but I am surprised that more don't. A fresh banner, and possibly one with relevant info, tips, advise etc, would be welcomed by viewers I feel.

Adblock Plus with allow non-intrusive advertising sounds like a fair deal.

Thanks for the link Pentti. It's interesting that many users are actually looking for way to control what site they adblock totally. Looks like just 25% are totally against all kinds of advertising!
-
The AdBlock Chrome extension allows one to enable/disable AdBlock per site basis - and even just to block certain elements on a site.

What there are ads on the SCF?
-
No seriously to me the ads on the SCF are SO relevant as to IMHO be a resource in themselves, to the point that I would almost encourage more! Sometimes I have actually just noticed an ad as I've clicked through to another page then hit the back button only to find the ad has changed!
I look at it this way, more than half of the useful blogs and pages on the net would not exist if not for advertising - I dont use an ad blocker for that reason, I respect the publishers need to generate an income! What I dont like is editorial that is product pushing in disguise, I could point you to a render blog that does that without shame! In the end some advertising takes me to apps, products, information or inspiration I'd have never found otherwise!
I agree with others the SCF ads are such there no inconvenience and if it helps support those administering the site all the better and bring on more!
